PHOBOS AR 1.3.3

PHOBOS AR represents an innovative development in the application of augmented reality technology for mental health treatment, marking it as the first markerless AR tool tailored for use by mental health professionals and individuals dealing with specific phobias. Designed to enhance cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches that utilize exposure techniques, it serves both as an in-session treatment aid and as an at-home supplement to traditional therapy.

The platform’s BiSAR (Bilateral Stimulation and Assisted Reprocessing) module draws on J. Shapiro's EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) methodology, further augmented by the AR capabilities available on iOS devices. EMDR is recognized for its efficacy in treating trauma-related conditions, including PTSD and autism spectrum disorders.

Recent validation of PHOBOS AR was conducted through a research project at Thomas More University in Belgium. The findings are scheduled for presentation at the XVI European Congress of Psychology in Moscow in July 2019, as well as at the Annual Meeting of the Belgian Association for Psychological Sciences (BAPS), where preliminary results highlight the potential of augmented reality for the treatment of animal phobias.
